onathan Yeldham has been in the heating and fireplace trade since 1987. In 1992 he opened "Welcome Home", a high street shop in Droitwich Spa offering every kind of gas and electric fire and fireplace. In those days nobody wanted a coal or wood fire...
ashions change all the time, and after all, a fireplace is both a source of heat and an item of furniture. So as enormous brick and stone fireplaces faded out, in came the classic wood mantel with swags and tails and other dust-gathering appendages, and then came the Ikea stage with minimalist maple wood mantels and more recently the limestone fireplaces etc. In 2009 the watchwords are of course efficiency and ecology.
eanwhile the gas fires moved on from truly primitive burners to substantially more efficient - and safe - appliances. Above all, CORGI finally became an organisation with some powers and removed the frighteningly unskilled gas fitters from the marketplace. Most recently the wood and multifuel burners have become pretty clean and green as well, with HETAS qualifications required so that they too will be installed safely.
hrough the years Jonathan's expertise as both a heating technician and as an interior designer grew, along with the skills and knowledge of his installation team, and Welcome Home became well known in the West Midlands as the place to go for expertise, problem solving, wise advice and, well, getting the job done properly.
n 2007 Jonathan took the view that, since he almost never sold a gas or solid fuel appliance to anyone without surveying the customer's property, and since there were so many thousands of products out there which meant that the customer rarely sees his actual new fire and fireplace until the day it is installed, it would be more cost-effective (and thus cheaper for the customer!) to give up the expensive high street location and take up the internet instead. So he moved to the building shown on the opening page, five miles out of Droitwich and halfway to Kidderminster, still with a small showroom but shifting from being a shopkeeper to a consultant / adviser - without the usual inflated prices of consultants of course. After twenty years and around 5000 fires and fireplaces, every customer has received goods of the right size, colour and specification to match what they were looking for. And many customers did not really know what they were looking for until Jonathan ran through all the options and helped them navigate the minefield of heating appliances and decorative/functional fireplaces.
o, whether you just want a fire (but the right fire) shipped to you, or whether you want a bespoke hand-made fireplace in wood, stone, marble, granite, cast iron and so forth supplied and installed, (or something in between) please contact Jonathan by phone or email and - whatever it is that you want to know about, you will receive what they nowadays call "best advice". Then hopefully you will buy something!
